Ibrahim Abdul-Malik, accepted Al-Islam in 1977, at the tender age of 19, in what was recognized as a Sunni Community on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Born and raised in Williamsburg Virginia, he relocated to South Carolina after junior-college, in pursuit of an employment opportunity. Not long after arriving there, he met his wife of 39 years, Mumtahanah Abdul-Malik. The two of them ventured upon the path to understanding Al-Islam. After several years of involvement with the community on Hilton Head, Ibrahim began attending the Savannah Mosque # 81, (which later became Masjid Jihad) and became involved with the community in any area that he had an applicable skill set. Ibrahim joined other workers in the community and did his best to help the community grow and progress. Imam Maajid Faheem ‘Ali would often call on Ibrahim to stand in for him on Fridays, etc. Ibrahim became Imam’s ‘Ali’s assistant.
Ibrahim served in a variety of other capacities at Masjid Jihad. He worked with several educational efforts, including:
The Clara Muhammed Weekend School for our children
Adult Islamic Studies (The Fundamentals of Al-Islam, Qur'anic Arabic, History, and Social Commentary of Imam Warith Deen Mohammed)
A product of "community education" Ibrahim has served as Imam for many Friday congregational (Jum'ah) prayers, and ta'aleem sessions
Other efforts of involvement include:
Interfaith dialog
Social events
Co-chair of the Fundraising Committee
Eid Committee
Masjid maintenance
Professionally, Ibrahim has worked in the hospitality industry for over 40 years. He brings a very transferable set of skills when it comes to dealing with different personalities and temperaments.
